Christmas lights are a staple of the holiday season. And while we’re used to seeing them on houses, they’re also becoming a popular way to decorate businesses, churches and other places around town.
Here are some of the most stunning Christmas light displays around the world:
The Kringleville display in Canton, Michigan
The Kringleville display is a 100-foot-tall animated musical extravaganza that has been featured on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “Good Morning America.” It’s almost impossible to see everything without getting out of your car and walking around the neighborhood.
The Nativity Scene at St. Nicholas Church in Indiana
St. Nicholas Church in South Bend, Indiana, has been putting up its Nativity scene since 1946 — and it’s no ordinary Nativity scene: The church has built its outdoor display with more than 10 million lights, making it one of the largest outdoor light shows in the world. It takes about two weeks for volunteers to put up all the lights!
The Woodlands
The Woodlands, located in Montgomery County, is one of the most famous Christmas light displays in the country. Every year, over 100 homes are decked out with elaborate light displays and synchronized music.
Highland Village
Highland Village is another suburb of Houston that has its own impressive Christmas light display every year.
Channelview
Channelview is a small city just south of Houston that has some pretty amazing Christmas lights displays each year!
This beautiful display in Kentucky with over 35,000 lights
This year marks the first time that Ashley and Josh Wurster have decorated their home on Long Hollow Pike in Bowling Green, Kentucky — and they’ve gone all out.
The couple spent six months planning their light display, which features more than 35,000 lights synchronized to music from an app on their phone. They use an app called Lightshow Pro to control everything from the timing of each light sequence to when certain songs should play.
“I’m not sure what we’re going to do next year because I think we’ve done it all,” Ashley told WKYT News. “We’re going to have to come up with something new.”
The Rimes’ Christmas Light Show
The Rimes are known for their extravagant Christmas light displays, and this year is no exception. The family has been putting up more than 100,000 lights for over 10 years now, and each year they’ve added more and more lights to the display. This year’s theme is “Winter Wonderland,” because, obviously, it’s all about the snow!
The White House Christmas Lights
This year’s White House display is inspired by the movie “Frozen,” which has become one of the most popular animated films in history since its release in 2013. The White House typically has one of the largest displays in America, but it’s not always easy to see from street level — so we recommend tuning into local news reports or following along on social media to find out when it will be turned on this year.
Rockefeller Center Tree
One of New York City’s most beloved traditions is its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center. The 85-foot Norway spruce stands tall at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where it will stay lit until Jan. 7th (unless some grinches steal all the lights).
